The Story of Al-AbarÄt Prayer

The fifth story is about reading Al-AbarÄt prayer. In the book ‘MenhÄj Al-Salah’ , describing Al-AbarÄt prayer, Ayatullah Allama al ḤillÄ« (mgbh) said, ‘It has been narrated from His Majesty SadÄ«q JaÊ¿far b. Muḥammad (pbuh). Also, about that prayer, there is a famous story by Sayyid Saeed Raá¸Ä« al-dÄ«n Muḥammad b. Muḥammad b. Muḥammad Avi (mgbh).

Again, referring to some scholars’ notes in the margins of this topic from ‘MenhÄj’, he has narrated the story such, from Mawla al-Saeed Fakhr al-DÄ«n Muḥammad, the son of the great Sheykh JamÄl al-DÄ«n, it means ‘Allama (Al-ḤillÄ«), that he has narrated it from his father, a FaqÄ«h Sheykh, SadÄ«d al-DÄ«n YÅ«sof, about mentioned Sayyid Raá¸Ä«, that he was imprisoned by one of the rulers of Sultan Chormaqan for a long time, in a very hard and severe condition. Once, he saw the pious successor, the one who looks forward to the Emergence, [ImÄm MahdÄ« (mgehr)], in his dream. So, he cried and said, ‘O’ My MawlÄ! Intercede for me to get rid of this oppressor group’.

His Excellency replied, ‘Recite the ‘AbarÄt supplication’. Sayyid asked, ‘Which one is ‘AbarÄt?’ He (pbuh) stated, ‘It is in your Miá¹£bÄḥ’. Again Sayyid said, ‘O, my Mawla! This supplication is not in my Miá¹£bÄḥ’. He (pbuh) stated, ‘look for it in Miá¹£bÄḥ, you will find the supplication in it’.

Then he woke up, performed his Morning prayer, and opened the book Miá¹£bÄḥ. He found a paper among the pages of the book that the supplication had been written on it. He recited the supplication 40 times. That ruler had two wives. One of them was a contriver and wise woman, and the ruler trusted her. The ruler came to her in her turn.

She told him, ‘Have you arrested one of the offsprings of AmÄ«r al-Mu’minÄ«n (pbuh)?’ The ruler replied, ‘Why did you ask about this?’ She said, ‘I saw a man in my dream, whose face was illuminated like sunshine. He grabbed my throat between his two fingers and said, ‘I see your husband has arrested one of my children and is harsh on him in food and drink’.

I replied, ‘O my Sayyid, who are you?’ He said, ‘I am Ali Ibn Abi ṬÄlib, tell your husband, if he does not release my son, indeed I will destroy his house’’. The story of this dream was spread [among people] and has reached the king. He said, ‘I do not know about it’. Then asked his councilors and said, ‘Who is imprisoned [in our prisons] by you?’

they replied, ‘The Allawi whom you ordered to capture him!’ [He] said, ‘Set him free! Give him a horse to ride, and indicate the way to him so he can go home!

In addition, in the book “Muhaj al-DaÊ¿awÄtâ€, Sayyid al Ajal “AlÄ« ibn TÄwoos†said, ‘One of these, is the prayer which was taught by my Siddiq [truthful companion], brother and friend: Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad QÄzi Awi (mgmh&h)1. About that prayer, he narrated a wonderful ḤÄdÄ«th; of an uncommon origin. It was the following:

Once something happened to him. There, he managed to find this prayer among the papers which were not among other books by him. So, he copied that. But as he copied it, the original one which was found among the books dispread!
