The biography of Muḥammad ibn Uthmān ibn Saˈid

One of the messengers and deputies of the Excellency was the former one’s son “Muḥammad ibn Uthmān ibn Saˈid Umrī”. His father Uthmān was considered as being trustworthy by Imām Ḥasan Askarī (pbuh). Also, the Imām informed the Shiites, “He is of the deputies of my son “Mahdī”.”

Anyhow, when it was time of his father “Uthmān ibn Saˈid Umrī”’s death, he received a letter by His Excellency Hujjah which included a letter of condolence; related to the death of Uthmān’s father’s. In addition, it refereed to the point that, Uthmān would be appointed and the deputy by God’s Walī, plus being a messenger like his father.

According to Shaykh Ṣadūq and others, the letter read:

We belong to God and to Him we shall return. In submission to His command and satisfaction with His decree and deeds, your father lived happily and died praiseworthy, may God have mercy on him and

He joined his friends and companions, peace be upon them, and he did not stay in their affairs, striving to do what would bring him closer to God Almighty.

And to them we are blessed

May God guide him and relieve him of his misfortune, and may God reward you and bestow upon you consolation, and may you be comforted and sober, and may you feel sad about his separation.

We were lost, so God comforted him in his turning point, and it was among the completeness of his happiness that God granted him a son like you whom He would create after him and raise him up again.

His position is by his command. And have mercy on him, and I say, praise be to God, for souls are good where you are and what God Almighty and Majestic has placed in you and with you.

He strengthened you, supported you, guided you, and was your guardian, protector, and shepherd.

Furthermore, In “Bihār” Allamah Majlisī quoted some lines from “Ghaybah”, which was written by Shaykh Tūsī. He narrated from a crowd of companions, in this way:

After Uthmān Ibn Saˈid died, a letter by the Sir “His Excellency Hujjah (mGehr)” was sent to Uthmān’s son, Muḥammad ibn Uthmān ibn Saˈid Umri. It read:

Which means, May God protect Uthmān ibn Saˈid’s son, after Uthmān’s death! He has always been our trustworthy and reliable one, in his father (mGbph&mhfs)  1’s time. In our idea, Uthmān’s son is just like himself [in terms of behaviors]. And, he is his father’s successor.

Whatever he says, is like our order. Also, he obeys our order. May God be his Lord and friend!

Moreover, they narrated from Shaykh Kulaynī, in another narration. It read:

Including his noble handwriting, His Excellency Sāhib al Amr (mGehr) wrote a letter. It read:

May God be satisfied with Muḥammad ibn Uthmān and his father! He is my reliable one; what he writes is like mine [as worthy as mine]!

There are many proofs in this regard, and the Imām’s miracles for Shiites were performed through him. Both during his vicarage and as a messenger, he was appointed by His Excellency Hujjah Allah, as the authority of all Shiites.

Also they narrated from his daughter “Umme Kulthūm”, that Muḥammad ibn Uthmān ibn Saˈid Umrī had written some volumes of books in Fīqh…
