Why Does Not God Clear The Table?

Ḥujjat al-Islām Ghera’ati

Everything in the universe has been created for humankind, and the purpose of human creation is “The knowledge of God and his servitude.”

Now, is our devotion what God had really intended?

We usually set the table for guests to eat food. [But] if they don’t, we will clear the table.

So, why does not God clear the table?

Imam Sādiq (pbuh) stated:

«لَولا الحُجَّةُ لَساخَتِ الأرضُ بِأهلِها»!

“If there were no Ḥujjat of God1 on the earth, the earth would submerge his people.”

Now the table is set, everyone eats but some waste it!

But a respectable person is still sitting and eating;

therefore, the host does not clear the table for his sake.

Or for example in a mosque, the servant sometimes sees everyone has gone, but a divine man is engaged in worshipping.

[Then] the servant does not turn off the mosque lights, because of him.

 

1-    Ḥujjat means, meaning and reason. And God has placed two proofs for man; one is an esoteric proof which is the same wisdom and the other is the apparent proof of the prophets and messengers and the imams (pbu th).
