The duties of The System of The Advocates (1)Â Â [of the Shiitesâ Imams]
By examining historical evidences, we conclude that the system of advocates didnât just aim at collecting: the five predicable, ZakÄt2, charity and vows. But for some reasons, acquisition of property was in relation with political issues.
[Here are] some of the duties of this organization:
Guiding the Shiites,
Debating with the opponents,
Execution of endowments,
Aiding the people in need
Interacting between Imam [Mahdī (mgehr)] and the people,
Receiving, delivering, and distributing funds,
And [finally], the invisible observation of the political situation.
1-Â Â Â Â In the Minor Occultation of Imam ZamÄn (mgehr), there were some people named as advocates who delivered the peopleâs certain letters and ordinances to the Imam (mgehr). On the other hand, Islamic Society would get orders, guidelines, claims or particulars of him, through the advocates.
2-Â Â Â Â Zakat literally means âpurity, growth, blessing, eulogy
and zakat of the property means its purification.
In Islamic teachings, zakat is defined as âthe title
of a financial right in the property that becomes obligatory when the
property reaches a taxable limitâ As a condition,
in the case of cow, sheep, goat, camel, gold, and silver, the person has to
own them for eleven months and pay the zakat at the end of the twelfth
month.
