Installation of Ḥajar al-Aswad [the Black Stone] by the ImÄm MahdÄ« (mgehr)

The eighth-  Quá¹­b RÄwandÄ« quoted from Ja’far ibn Muḥammad ibn Qulawayh, who was Shaykh MufÄ«d (may God have mercy on him)’s professor, that he said:

when QarÄmaá¹­a, means heretic IsmÄ’ilis, destroyed the Ka’bah and brought Ḥajar al-Aswad to KÅ«fah and installed it in the mosque of KÅ«fah,

And in the year 337 Ah, the beginning of the Major Occultation, they intended to bring Ḥajar al-Aswad back to KaÊ¿bah, and reinstall it in its place. So that year, I wished to perform Hajj in the hope of meeting His Majesty Sahib al-Amar (mgehr); because, it has been narrated in AḥadÄ«th á¹¢aḥīḥ1 that, Ḥajar al-Aswad will not be installed by anyone other than the one ,who is infallible or is ImÄm ZamÄn (mgher). Similarly, before Beˈthat [the prophetic mission of the Messenger of God (pbuh&h)], when KaÊ¿bah was destroyed by flood, it was His Majesty the Messenger of God (pbuh&h) who installed it.

Also, after ḤajjÄj ibn YÅ«suf destroyed KaÊ¿bah over Abd AllÄh ibn al-Zubayr, they wanted to reconstruct it. But whoever tried to install Ḥajar al-Aswad, they failed; as it trembled and was not positioned. Until His Majesty Zayn al-Ê¿Ä€bidÄ«n (pbuh) put it in its place and it was rested.

Therefore, I headed to Hajj that year, but once I arrived in BaqdÄd, I caught a severe illness; so much that I was afraid of losing my life and could not go to Hajj. So, I chose a Shia man as my successor. His name was ibn HishÄm. Then I wrote a petition to His Majesty and stamped it in a letter. There I had asked, how long I would live, and, if I could survive that illness or no?

I told Ibn HishÄm, ‘I mean that you hand this letter to the one who puts Ḥajar in its place, and receive the response, I definitely send you to do so.’

Ibn HishÄm said, ‘When I entered honorable Mecca, I gave money to the servants of the Ka’bah to support me at the time of setting the Ḥajar, so that I could rightly observe who would put Ḥajar in its place, So the crowd of people does not prevent my observation.

When they were about to put Ḥajar in its place, the servants surrounded me and protected me, so that I started observing. Whoever put the Ḥajar, it would move and tremble, and do not place, until a handsome and fragrant youth with beautiful hair and olive skin came out, took Ḥajar from them, and installed it in its place. Then, it became stabled and did not move.

Therefore, there was a commotion from the people, they roared and left the mosque. I started following him at full speed, passing through people, and pushing them away from my left and right, and running. People thought I was crazy. I did not take my eyes off him, lest he disappear from my sight.

At last, I got out of the crowd. However, he was walking very in extreme calmness and confidence, but I could not reach him, although I was running fast. Finally, he came to a place where there was no one but him and me. He stopped and took notice of me and stated, ‘Give me, what you have with you!’

I gave him the letter, but he did not open it and stated, ‘Tell him that he

should have no fear in this case. You will regain your health, and your inevitable time of death will be after thirty years.’

When I see what happened and heard his miraculous words, a great shock overcame me so much that I could not move. When ibn Qulawayh heard the story, he became more certain about his believes. He lived until the year 367 AH.

In that year, he caught a minor illness. Yet, he made a will and took a shroud and Ḥanūṭ2 and the necessities of the journey to the Hereafter. He was very serious in these matters. People wondered, ‘You are not suffering from a serious illness, so why are you anxious and are in such a hurry?

(اَلْحَقَه٠اللّهÙ) .( بÙمَوالیه٠الاَطْھار٠ÙÙ‰ دار٠الْقَرارÙ)

He returned, ‘My Lord has promised me.’ Finally, he passed away because of that illness, and was promoted to the high levels of heaven. “May Allah join him to his infallible masters in the eternal abode.â€

The cause of converting HamedÄnies to Shi’a

Ninth, Shaykh Ibn Babawayh narrated from Aḥmad ibn FÄris AdÄ«b, that he said:

[Once,] I arrived in HamedÄn and learned they were all Sunnis, except the people of one area. They were called Bani Rashid, who were all Imamiyyah [Twelver] Shias. [However,] I asked them the cause of converting them to Shi’a. There was an old man among them, you could see the effects of righteousness and religion in his appearance. He replied me, ‘The reason is that, once our great ancestor that all of us are his offspring, went for Hajj.

He explained us, ‘I came back on foot. After passing through several places in the desert, I slept with the intention of waking up when the caravan reached its destination.  But I stayed asleep until the warmth of the sun woke me up. Yes, the caravan left and I was lonesome. I couldn’t see the road; well, I trusted on God and set off.  After a few minutes of walking, I reached a verdant, green meadow with tulips which I hadn’t seen such a place before.

As I entered that garden, it looked a perfect palace! I went forward till I reached the door. There, I saw two servants with white dresses. I greeted them and they replied in a nice way. Then they kept on, ‘Sit down! God has bestowed on you a great blessing, as he led you here!’ There, one of the servants entered the palace and then returned shortly.

After a while, he came back and said, ‘Get up and go in!’ As I entered, I saw a palace that I had never seen such a good one. The servant went forward [and I followed him]. There was a curtain on the door of the house, he pulled back the curtain and said, ‘Enter!’ When I entered I saw a young man sitting in the middle of the house, with a long sword hanging from the ceiling above his head. The tip of the sword was about to touch his head to reach his head.

Yes!He was like a moon shining in the darkness. I offered salutation and he replied in the best of compassion and mellifluousness and continued, ‘Do you know who I am?’ I responded, ‘ No, swear by God!’. He said, ‘ I am QÄ’im [the rising one] of Muhammad (pbuh)’s Ahl al Bayt, and I am the one who will rise with this sword in the Last Era (and pointed to that sword), soon I will establish justice and truth over the whole earth, after it has been filled with oppression and wrong.

Then I prostated myself and put my face on the earth, he said, ‘Do not do so, and raise your head! You are a man from the cities of Jabal, called Hamedan.’ I replied, ‘Yes, sir and my Mawla! And he kept on, ‘Do you want to return to your family?’ I replied, ‘Yes, my Sayyid! I want to return to my family and give them this glad tidings, of the prosper that has been granted to me!’

So he pointed at the servant, and he took my hand, and gave me a gold sack. Then he took me out of the garden and accompanied me. After a while, the mansions, trees, and minaret of the mosque appeared. He said, ‘Do you know that town?’

I replied, ‘It is AsadÄbad, the town near ours’. He said, ‘That is it, go there safe and sound’. He said it and disappeared. Then I entered AsadÄbad. There were around forty or fifty AshrafÄ« in the sack. When I got to Hamedan, I gathered my relatives, and gave them the glad tiding about the blessing that the Almighty God gifted me. We were always in goodness and affluence as long as we had those AshrafÄ«.
