Sayyid Muḥammad Mahdī who was the son of Sayyid Murtaḍā Tabātabā’i Borujerdi, was one of Imām Ḥasan Mujtabā (pbuh)’s offspring. He was born in Holy Karbalā on a Thursday night, in Shawwal, 115 AH. Also he grown up in a religious and pious family.
The night the Sayyid was born, his father dreamed that Imām Riḍā (pbuh) ordered Muḥammad ibn Ismael ibn Bazi ̓ to turn on a candle on Sayyid Murtaḍā’s roof. When Muḥammad ibn Ismael turned it on, an all-encompassing light ascended from the candle. Anyway, when the father woke up from the true dream, they gave him the good tiding to him.
Once, Mirzā Qummi who was his classmate met him in Najaf. There, Mirzā asked him how he had progressed so much! He reacted:
Once I went to Kūfah Mosque. I saw my Sir, Walī Aşr (mGehr) was busy with worshipping. There, I stood up and said Hi. He answered my hello and ordered me to get nearer. I just went a little forward, because of the ethics. He stated, ‘Come nearer!’ And I just went a little forward. Again he stated, ‘Come nearer!’ When I got nearer, he affectionately embraced me and kept me tight on his chest.
Then, whatever The Almighty God wanted, was transferred to my heart and chest….
